About Unique Pewter amy

I am a native Philadelphian. My family has been here since the early 19th century. The beauty of the world here has been my inspiration for over 36 years. Creativity has always been a part of me. I began picture framing in 1980 which allowed my design talent to mix with my fabrication abilities. In 1984 I became a Certified Picture framer while working at The Artful Framer in Paoli, PA. During this period I studied stained glass and began creating two and three dimensional pieces. I found a profound joy in making things with my hands.

Family life lead me to search for a way to make a living as an artist. In 1994 Unique Pewter was founded. It was a modest start making pewter charms and enhancing them with glass and semi precious stones. I found delight in a wide range of imagery, animals, angels, whimsical Tea pots, hearts, flowers, holiday and nautical themes. People responded so positively to my work that I started exhibiting in art and craft shows.

In 2000 I opened a store and spent 7 years as a retailer in Malvern, PA., first at 13 East King Street, and then in The Olde Malvern Firehouse with an antique Co-op and gift store. There “Come Bead with Me” evolved which was where I began teaching jewelry making to kids and adults. As an active member of The Malvern Business and Professional Association I was instrumental in establishing two juried art shows in Malvern as a way to bring the community together and help artists and retailers.

After my interest became focused on glass I closed the firehouse. This allowed me to focus on developing my skill as a lamp worker which then led to learning the techniques of kiln fired glass.  Today both of these techniques in glass work have led to my primary passion for creating distinctive pieces from glass.
